South Creek Foxhounds LogoSouth Creek Foxhounds

South Creek Foxhounds is Florida's oldest fox hunting club, officially founded in 1965. South Creek Foxhounds is located in west central Florida (Tampa) Established in 1965 by the late Mr. Robert Thomas of Two Rivers Ranch. The hunt was recognized by the MFHA in 1972. Originally known as Two Rivers Hunt, the hunt moved from the Thomas Ranch over 10 years ago, and now has numerous fixtures in six counties.

South Creek Foxhounds enjoys the chase from September through February of red and gray fox, bob cat, and the ever illusive, speedy coyote. We ride through pasture land, palmetto bushes, pine and oak forests, and cypress swamps. Our fences are primarily solid, inviting coops. Our pack consists of cross bred fox hounds which are hunted by Professional Huntsman Robert Douglas.

Welcome to the 2017-2018 Hunt Season,

We are delighted you have joined us to enjoy wonderful sport, following our keen hounds across beautiful landscape. Thank you to our Landowners, our Staff, and our Volunteers.

This year we will be entering new puppies, so please give them space and silence so they may learn. It seems many members have acquired new horses; again, help your fellow member adjust to their new mount by allowing plenty of space around these horses.  New horse owners, if your horse is new to field hunting, help us identify your mount with a green ribbon.
We are so delighted to have the opportunity to hunt El Maximo, also known as the Wilson Ranch Fixture. Our Staff has had an outing on the property, but do be patient as we are just in the infancy of our knowledge there.

We hope all have had the chance to use the new parking area for Gilley Creek.  Instead of driving down the driveway to the house, we will make a left turn into the pasture where Renee’s front porch is located.  To ensure peace of mind for Renee and follow the rules of proper field hunting etiquette, when exiting the Gilley Creek property make sure all gates are secured and locked.  Let us make that particular effort with no mistakes.

It is impracticable for a Field Master to see behind him/her and monitor the safety of the field. Our new Field Secretary will be Mary Lu and Betsy Johnson when Mary Lu is either leading the field or absent. Please respect their wishes and report any unsafe situations to them.

Safety – always top of mind.  Control your horse, or ask to be excused and return to the trailers with a fellow Fox Hunter. Keep ample spacing amongst yourselves and around hounds and Staff. Masters and Staff will have emergency cards with fixture addresses and Lat/Long coordinates.  Masters and Staff will also have a copy of the emergency contact list – be sure your information is accurate.  We all do what we can to mitigate risk, but personal responsibility is imperative.

Our calendar highlights are Misty Morning Hunter Trials -  Saturday, October 7; Opening Meet - Saturday November 25; Christmas Party – Saturday, December 16; All Florida Meet - February 14-18 with the Hunt Ball to be held at Palma Ceia Country Club; and Hunter Trials at Ridge Point – Saturday, March 10.

To keep our subscriptions moderate, we must have participation in our fundraising events – invite friends, encourage non-riding friends to become social members, sponsor a phase of AFM, volunteer for Hunter Paces, invite your riding friend to guest cap with the hopes of joining.

We are going to have a splendid season! Be safe and have fun!

Best Regards,
